Today is good Friday, so I got ready for church as usual. Well, maybe not quite as usual! I got out my scooter suit, maps, avalanche beacon, and rifle before heading out for the day! Evind, Jone, Seljie, and I went 40 km by scooter to a place called Vindodden. In Norwegian, Vindodden means “Wind Point”. It certainly lived up to it’s name. Fortunately, I stayed quite warm under all of the clothing I was wearing.
The priest and staff did a beautiful job with the service. It was certainly a Good Friday to remember.
Svalbard Psalm
Translation:
In the far north of the Norwegian Sea among ice and snow and wind, there is an open church where people can search in. A light is always burning when the night falls long, one always receives hope from the sound of the church’s bell. Sea and sky, mountain and plateau, God’s story is in all that he He does. Light and dark, stormy and calm, God is with us, now as before. In his church by his Word, He is now at the table.
