During the past week, our class spent each day operating the European Incoherent SCATter radar on Svalbard. This instrument measures parameters of the upper atmosphere. We also got to visit SPEAR and run a coordinated experiment with them. SPEAR is an ionospheric heating facility, designed to excite wave and instabilities in the upper atmosphere.
A few of my friends made this ski jump on the road just below mine 2! We found a few shipping palettes to burn in a bonfire and spent the night flying through the air.
Jone, Elin, Eirin, Ingie and I went on a weekend trip to this rustic Russian cabin near Barentsburg… talk about deluxe accommodations! The cabin could actually be made very warm with the coal stove inside (perhaps a little too warm), and we had a great time!
